Back to School Speech Therapy Essentials and Freebies

Back to school time is always full of such excitement. My first day back is usually early-mid August. I tend to be a positive person, so I’m focusing on the fact that I will finally be getting back into somewhat of a routine, and I will finally get to see my students again! I’ve missed those little humans so much.
To help prepare for back to school, here’s a quick round up of some of my favorite resources for this time of year. This is a mixture of paid resources and freebies, so feel free to scroll through until something catches your eye. Links to each resource are included at the end of the blog post.
FREE Speech Room Bulletin Board
This is what I have hanging on one of my walls in my speech room. I share my room with our OT, so I wanted to include them on my welcome banner. You absolutely can just use Welcome to Speech if that’s all you need. Link to download this freebie is at the end of the post.

All About Me Interactive Book
I created this resource to work with one particular student on answering questions related to personal information (name, age, etc.), but it quickly became one of my most used resources, especially for back to school or when I get new students. Includes both a printable and no print digital version. Link to download is at the end of the post.

Easy Articulation Screener
This screener is something I use all year long, but it’s especially helpful at the start of a new school year. I like to train my teachers how to use it, so they can administer it themselves before they initiate a speech referral for a student. I’ve also just recently added a digital version to this resource, so you can use it in person or online. Link to download is at the end of the post.

FREE Teacher Communication Forms for the SLP
These can be printed or used digitally (send through email, etc.). I use these to help remind teachers of meetings, share students’ speech schedules, and share general notes about what we are doing in speech. Great to send to parents, too. Link to download this freebie is at the end of the post.

FREE Digital Visual Schedule
This is a simple, clean looking visual schedule that is designed to be used digitally. I plan to use this for in person therapy, too. I will just have it open on my ipad. It’s editable, so you can add any images you need for your students. Link to download this freebie is at the end of the post.

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books Companion Pack
This is one of my favorite back to school books to use. I love the repetitive language and the overall silliness of the story. This companion pack includes a variety of activities to address language skills and articulation. Link to download is at the end of the post.

FREE Speech Therapy Resource List
I created this list back when all of the COVID-19 mess began in 2020. I’m sure there are even more great resources that were not included on this list, but it’s a great place to start if you want to browse some great freebies. If you find a free resource you love, remember to go to TPT and leave some feedback for the seller. We love to read your feedback. It keeps us motivated to continue providing you with freebies.
