Teaching WHY Questions Free Resource

WHY questions are often the most difficult and most abstract of the wh- questions. A helpful strategy to teaching this question type is to start off with visual supports, and also offer a sentence starter. We have had the most success starting off with teaching children to respond to ‘why?’ with a reason (i.e. Because…). This helps them learn the question form and initiate an appropriate response. Then you can move on to other possible responses.
